Olympus Dive Center Goes To Little Cayman

Little Cayman Lensball

Little Cayman is a special special place to many people.  To me, it was my home for 18 years and I still love returning to "the island that time forgot" year after year with Olympus Dive Center.

If you don't know about Little Cayman, let me tell you a little about this special island.  Little Cayman is the smallest of the three islands that make up the Cayman Islands.  She is 1 mile wide by 10 miles long with approximately 200 residents.  Iguanas have the right of way on the island and don't be surprised to see dozens of different species of birds from Whistling Ducks to Magnificent Frigates to Red-Footed Boobies... but, to me the best thing about Little Cayman is the diving!

It does not get much better... Little Cayman is unique in regards to it is a plateau of an underwater mountain range that rises above water with an elevation of 30 feet.  The dive sites range from the Bloody Bay Marine park with sheer walls, mini walls with sand boulevards and cascading walls to spur & groove coral formations on the south side of the island - Preston Bay.

This past December was our 4th Annual trip to Little Cayman and a fantastic time was had by all!

Little Cayman Dive Group  From our arrival on the island, the Southern Cross Club makes everyone feel like it is "coming home".  Our rooms were beautiful and the food is par excellent!  Just a few short steps and we are at the dive boat, on the very spacious "Lucky Lady" where the SCC crew make it easy stowing our gear and getting geared up for our dives.

We are a short 20-minute boat ride to our dive site and then into the crystal blue waters we go.  Stingrays, turtles, groupers, healthy reefs and gazillions of fish await us. Our dive guides are great at pointing out all the cool critters and taking excellent care of us.

In regards to the critters... there is a little something for everyone.  I love the macro stuff and Little Cayman never disappoints!  Whether it be a tiny headshield slug climbing a mountain of sand to one of my favorites... the lettuce sea slug - the beauty abounds!

Our week in Little Cayman flies by too quickly... but, the bright side is that Olympus Dive Center is headed there again in October for our 5th Annual Little Cayman dive trip!  Hope you can join me!

Cheers, Dottie
