LOCAL ATTRACTIONS Plenty of Fun Things to Do....

Local Attractions - Crystal Coast

Since you can't be diving all the time (I know, we feel the same way), here are a few activities to keep you or your non-diving companion busy...  The Crystal Coast is host to a variety of activities other than diving. We encourage you to tack a few extra days on to your vacation to enjoy more of what the area has to offer!

The Beach

The Crystal Coast is home to beautiful, typically uncrowded, beaches ideal for swimming, walking, shell collecting, or just relaxing. Check with the dive shop for parking recommendations!

Fishing

There are numerous opportunities for full and half-day fishing charters. North Carolina offers not only exceptional wreck diving but world class fishing. Unknown to most divers is the great fishing that can be found not only underwater for spear fishermen but while staying dry on the surface aboard our friends, The Carolina Princess. The next time you plan a trip to visit Morehead City, add an extra day to go fishing with the fine folks down the block. The Carolina Princess would also be happy to host the non-divers in your family while you dive the wrecks that make Morehead City the Graveyard of the Atlantic.  For more information about the fishing charters offered by Carolina Princess, please visit their website at www.carolinaprincess.com and let them know the folks at Olympus sent you!

Surfing

The oceans of Atlantic Beach offer surfing for those who prefer an activity in the water, just not under it! We recommend Atlantic Beach Surf Shop and South Swell Surf Shop where you can find rentals as well as surf lessons for beginners. These shops also offer paddleboard lessons and rentals!

Cape Lookout National Seashore

No trip to the North Carolina coast is complete without a visit to a lighthouse! Ferry service to this virtually uninhabited and pristine landmark is available from Harker's Island, Morehead City and Beaufort. Visit the Cape Lookout website for more information.

Museums and Historic Sites

The North Carolina Maritime Museum, The History Place, Fort Macon State Park and the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum make for enjoyable rainy day activities.

The NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores

Recently renovated, the Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day. You can watch and talk to the divers in the Living Shipwreck Exhibit which includes a replica of the U-352! Olympus Dive Center is a proud sponsor of the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores Dive Program! For more information about the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, visit their website!

Golf

There are several area golf courses to entertain non-divers and divers alike. Stay an extra day and play a round! Try Crystal Coast Country Club or Brandywine Bay Golf Club.

Exploring

Eco-tours, sailing, kayaking, and bird watching are all popular activities along the Crystal Coast. Explore the Rachel Carson Marine Preserve, Shackleford Banks, and surrounding islands. Ferries and boat rentals available from Beaufort, Atlantic Beach and Morehead City.
