The Project AWARE Sand Tiger Shark Conservation Course with OLYMPUS DIVE CENTER

Sharks are crucial to marine ecosystems, yet sharks are in a global decline. Learn about the value of sharks and what is causing the rapid loss of shark populations. The course may include two scuba dives or may be presented as a nondiving education program. The first dive of this distinctive specialty course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification, ask your instructor about earning credit.

The Fun Part:

This course is specifically geared towards the Sand Tiger shark which we have in abundance in North Carolina. Not only will you learn about this fascinating species but you will experience them up close!

What You Learn

  • Identifying potential surface hazards to sharks in the dive location
  • Identifying potential underwater hazards to sharks
  • Appropriate and responsible diving practices and behaviors that minimize negative environmental effects
  • Proper buoyancy and behavior of divers in relationship to the animals
  • Identifying species, gender, distinguishing features and how to count

Prerequisites

To take this course, you must be:

  • A PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another training organization)
  • A PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Diver (or qualifying certification from another training organization)
  • 15 years old
  • Experienced with offshore dives on North Carolina's deeper shipwrecks

The Scuba Gear You Use

You use all the basic scuba gear including your dive computer, slate, U/W imaging system and other specialty gear.

Your course price includes

  • Instruction, books, and materials
  • Certification Fees

Price: $200/person

  • Class size is limited to 4 students
  • Weekend or weekday scheduling formats, year-around

  *Students must provide their own personal items including mask, fins, snorkel, booties, gloves, regulator, BCD, and tanks. We have rentals available for the regulator, BCD, dive computer, wetsuit, and tanks.

*Boat dives are required for an additional fee.  If you book this course On-line you will be contacted by our staff to reserve the appropriate dive trip(s).
